What is the principle of desander hydrocyclone?

The principle of a desander hydrocyclone is based on the concept of centrifugal force. When drilling fluid enters the hydrocyclone tangentially at a high velocity, it creates a swirling motion inside the hydrocyclone. This swirling motion generates centrifugal force, causing the solid particles within the fluid to move towards the outer wall of the hydrocyclone.

As the solid particles move towards the outer wall, they lose momentum and settle under the influence of gravity. The settled particles accumulate in the lower section of the hydrocyclone and are discharged through the underflow outlet, while the cleaned drilling fluid exits through the overflow outlet.

The desander hydrocyclone operates on the principle that heavier particles have a greater tendency to move towards the outer wall due to their higher inertia. This allows for effective separation of solid particles from the drilling fluid.

The efficiency of a desander hydrocyclone is influenced by various factors, such as the hydrocyclone's diameter, operating pressure, and the properties of the drilling fluid. These factors determine the hydrocyclone's capacity to separate solid particles of a specific size range.

By employing the centrifugal force principle, the desander hydrocyclone efficiently removes solid particles from the drilling fluid, improving the fluid's quality and protecting downstream equipment from damage.
