How do I choose an agitator for mud tank?
There are generally several types of mud agitators, including direct-connected mud agitators and vertical mud agitators. Drilling fluid agitators are important equipment in drilling fluid tank solid control systems, mainly used for mixing drilling fluid. So what should we pay attention to when choosing a mud agitator?
1. Impeller speed problem:
Since we do not want the cuttings to be further crushed during the mixing process, the speed of the agitator used should not be too high, and should be selected between 50 and 60 rpm. For mud agitators exceeding 60 rpm, users are advised to be cautious.
2. Motor power problem:
Currently, agitators with motor powers of 5.5kw, 7.5kw and 11KW are commonly used in the market. The guiding principle of its design is that it can still be started after the impeller is stopped and buried by sand. Therefore, a suitable motor power should be selected. The motor powers of the mud agitators produced by our company are 5.5KW, 7.5KW, 11KW, 15KW, 18.5KW, and 22KW. It can also be customized according to customer requirements.
3. Sealing problem of agitator:
According to the existing experience, due to the extremely harsh working conditions, the end face seal of the drilling fluid agitator shaft is not suitable, and the general packing seal is also difficult to adapt. At present, the more successful method is to use multiple sets of V-type packing, which has self-sealing performance and self-replenishment ability, and will not cause lubricating oil leakage problems if it is not maintained or adjusted for a long time.
4. The selection of agitator impeller:
The impeller of the mud agitator is diverse, but it should be noted that a small diameter blade and a high-speed mud agitator must have a small circulation volume and a large shear force, so it is not suitable for the purpose of solid suspension of drilling fluid. Therefore, the impeller diameter should generally be larger.
Secondly, it should be noted that the turbine impeller has been widely used in drilling fluid agitators, among which the open turbine type is good. Since there is no middle disc part, it will not hinder the convection mixing of the upper and lower liquid phases of the blades.

The mud agitator is one of the main equipment in the solid control system, so when choosing an agitator, we must choose one produced by a regular manufacturer.
