Knowledge about mud gun

The mud gun is a special equipment used to stir the drilling fluid in the circulating tank and prevent the dead angle in the tank. Also known as drilling fluid gun or hydraulic mixing gun.

The mud gun can be divided into manual adjustment and automatic rotation according to the rotation method.

The drilling fluid gun is usually installed about 15 cm from the bottom of the tank, and has a 360° tap that can adjust the direction and stir the dead center. The effective diameter of the low-pressure nozzle is 1.52 to 2.74 meters, which is determined by the density, viscosity and nozzle velocity of the drilling fluid. Nozzle size and feed pressure determine the liquid volume and velocity through the nozzle. The high-pressure liquid leaves the nozzle at high velocity, where the head is converted into velocity. The more drilling fluid passes through the nozzle per unit time, the greater the velocity and the greater the shear force generated.

Of course, any kind of equipment has its limitations, and the mud gun is no exception.

1. The mud gun is an auxiliary tool of the mechanical stirring device, which cannot solve the suspension problem of the solid phase of the drilling fluid.

2. The effective depth is only 1.0~2.7 meters, and its size is related to the density, viscosity and nozzle speed of the drilling fluid.

3. The movable mud gun installed on the top of the tank needs to be adjusted at any time, but some dead spots are still difficult to eliminate. The precipitated solid phase in the drilling fluid is sprayed by the mud gun, which is easy to form lumps and block the cone drilling nozzle or cause damage to the drilling pump. These disadvantages limit the range of use of agitator guns.
