What are the function and working principle of the shear pump
Shear pump is a special equipment specially used for shearing polymer and clay in drilling fluid. After the polymer (or clay) is fully sheared and mixed in advance, it can enter the drilling fluid system to give full play to its role and improve the performance of the drilling fluid. If there is no shear, the polymer drilling fluid may block the vibrating screen during circulation, lose a large amount of polymer, increase the drilling cost, and may make the solid particles in the drilling fluid hard and difficult to remove.
What is the working principle of a shear pump?
The impeller of the shear pump is generally composed of a 300mm outer diameter stainless steel turbine (with guide vanes, a main wheel, multiple nozzles and 4 collection chambers on it) and a shear plate. It can produce a small end shear of 25.4m/s (submerged shear). When the liquid flows through the shear pump, half of the liquid will be sheared twice under the strong advancement of the turbine collection chamber.
The shear pump is installed on a special base, driven by a belt pulley through a V belt, and a mixing funnel and a drilling fluid gun are matched with the shear pump. This constitutes a complete shear and hydration.
Note: The shear pump cannot be used for active drilling fluid, because the solid phase and barite in the drilling fluid will quickly damage the shear pump turbine.
