The drilling cuttings box is a device used to collect and transport waste drilling fluid and cuttings in offshore drilling operations. Due to the limitations of crane loads on early drilling rigs, the use of drilling cuttings boxes became an easy way to collect and transport waste. These boxes are usually placed close to the solids control equipment, so that the moving distance is short and convenient for boxing. When a bin is full, it is removed and an empty bin is placed to continue collecting waste. After a certain number of boxes have been met, workboats are used to transport these full boxes back to shore, while empty boxes are brought back to the drilling site for further use.

When in use, empty boxes can be stacked to save space, but not when full. For larger-scale construction, it is usually necessary to use more than three sets of 25 to 30 drilling cuttings boxes each. Therefore, there needs to be enough space at the drilling site to accommodate all the drilling cuttings boxes.
