Advantages and types of centrifugal pump
Time: 2024-05-24 Source: Solids Control Equipment Author: Mrek
In petroleum and petrochemical production enterprises, various centrifugal pumps= are widely used. Centrifugal pump have many advantages over other types of pumps, such as: centrifugal pumps have uniform flow, smooth operation, small vibration, high speed, low equipment installation and maintenance costs, and a wide range of applications (including flow, head, and adaptability to the environment). medium properties). Therefore, centrifugal pumps are a type of pump widely used in industrial production.
Centrifugal pumps are generally driven by electric motors. Before the pump starts, the pump body and suction pipe are filled with liquid. When the impeller rotates at high speed, the impeller drives the liquid between the blades to rotate together. Due to the centrifugal force, the liquid is thrown from the center of the impeller to the outer edge of the impeller (the flow speed can increase to 15~25m/s), and the kinetic energy also increases. When the liquid enters the pump casing, due to the gradual expansion of the flow channel in the volute-shaped pump casing, the liquid flow rate gradually decreases, and part of the kinetic energy is converted into static pressure energy, so the liquid flows out along the discharge port with a higher pressure.
At the same time, because the liquid is thrown out, a certain vacuum is formed in the center of the impeller, and the liquid surface pressure Pa is higher than the impeller center pressure. Therefore, the liquid in the suction pipe enters the pump due to the pressure difference. The impeller rotates continuously, and liquid is continuously sucked in and pressed out. Because centrifugal pumps mainly rely on centrifugal force to transport liquids, they are called centrifugal pumps.
Classification of centrifugal pumps
1. Classification according to the number of working impellers
Single-stage centrifugal pump: that is, there is only one impeller on the pump shaft.
Multistage centrifugal pump: Two or more impellers on the pump shaft.
2. Classification according to work pressure
Low pressure centrifugal pump
Medium pressure centrifugal pump
High pressure centrifugal pump
3. Classification according to impeller water inlet mode
Single-side water inlet centrifugal pump: also called single-suction pump, that is, there is only one water inlet on the impeller;
Double-side water inlet centrifugal pump: also called double-suction pump, that is, there is a water inlet on both sides of the impeller.
4. Classification according to pump shaft position
Horizontal centrifugal pump: The pump shaft is in a horizontal position.
Vertical centrifugal pump: The pump shaft is in a vertical position.
